My Pod with Rabeel

By Asjad Nazir.

TALENTED Pakistani singer/songwriter Rabeel has released four songs, including his

successful hit Roya Karengi. The emerging artist has had his music featured across a  number of channels and is currently based in Dubai, where he is making a name for himself

on the live circuit.

When Eastern Eye asked him to select 10 songs he loves, Rabeel said: “I can tell you that

my favourite right now is Roya Karengi because it is my latest release and is very close

to my heart. It is a song I composed with so many thoughts and finally, it became a hit.

Selecting just 10 other songs is a near impossible task because I love music, but I will try. Here are the songs that I love.”

Aap Bete Hain Balin Peh Meri by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan: The late great musical genius was a great gift to humanity and he left us so many treasures that I could have done a top 10 just with his songs. But this is one song I don’t feel gets the praise it deserves. This song is lyrically very strong along with being a really great composition.

Humnava from Hamari Adhuri Kahani: When the song first appeared Mithoon had

just composed it and got another singer to deliver the vocals, but since then he has sung

versions of it himself in the live arena. I really like this song because it is so very soothing

and relaxing.

Mann Bharrya by B Praak: There is a reason that this track has racked up well over 75 million views on YouTube. It is just a great track with a really impressive vocal range from the singer. I will always salute the talents of other singers and when I hear a strong vocal like this, it inspires me.

Chunar from ABCD 2: The undisputed king of Bollywood right now is Arijit Singh, who is

well on his way to becoming the greatest male singer of the modern era. I really love this

song because it reminds me of a mother’s love.

Baaghi by Shuja Haider: I feel music has the power to heal. A perfect illustration of that is this song, which has its own unique texture.

Dil Diyan Gallan from Tiger Zinda Hai: The action movie had this amazing song by Atif

Aslam. It is a great love song that reminds me of unforgettable moments.

Shola Tha Jal Bujha Hoon by Mehdi Hassan: This is a very pleasant ghazal with an outstanding vocal delivery at the base of it by the legendary singer. I also love the lyrics.

Doori Na Rahe Koi from Kartavya: It is fair to say that most music fans would have a Lata Mangeshkar song in their top 10. She has beautifully sung this with amazing style.

Chingari Koi Bhadke from Amar Prem: I love this Kishore Kumar song because the lyrics are amazing and brilliantly explain the concept of the world we live in.

Qismat by Ammy Virk: It may be a commercial hit, but this song is also technically very strong as the composition has lower and higher notes at the same time.
