Bollywood movies that impressed us in the first quarter of 2020

The first three months of 2020 are already over. March has surely been one of the toughest months as things went haywire due to the coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown was announced. For Bollywood, these first three months of the year haven’t been that great box office wise but content-wise there were many movies that made a mark.

So, today let’s look at the list of Bollywood films that impressed us in the first quarter of 2020…

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior

Ajay Devgn’s big-budget project Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior released in January this year. Directed by Om Raut, the film was high-on VFX and impressed one and all. The movie was very well narrated and the performances of Ajay, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol were appreciated a lot. It is currently the high-grossing film of the year.

Panga

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga starring Kangana Ranaut released during the Republic Day weekend. The film received positive reviews and everyone couldn’t stop praising the brilliant performance of Kangana in the film. However, unfortunately, the movie failed to make a mark at the box office.

Jawaani Jaaneman

After impressing us with his performance in Tanhaji, Saif Ali Khan came on the big screen with Jawaani Jaaneman. An urban-cool comedy, Jawaani Jaaneman told the story of a man who one day finds out that he has a grown-up daughter and his life changes. Well, this Nitin Kakkar’s directorial is surely one of the most underrated films of the year.

Malang

Mohit Suri surely knows how to direct a romantic-thriller. Set in Goa, Malang had everything that a moviegoer wants; a good story, amazing star cast, and fantastic music. Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kemmu and Disha Patani, all the actors were awesome in the film.

Thappad

Last but not the least; we have Thappad on our list. Anubhav Sinha’s directorial is undoubtedly one of the best movies we have seen in the past few years. The movie spoke about a very relevant topic and of course, Taapsee Pannu gave an award-winning performance in it.

Kubrick’s forgotten crime classic that inspired Tarantino’s 'Reservoir Dogs' goes viral again

Before Quentin Tarantino became a household name with Reservoir Dogs, he was just another movie buff absorbing everything he could from his favourite directors. One name that stood out to him early on was Stanley Kubrick, especially for his lesser-known 1956 film The Killing, a movie that left a deeper mark on Tarantino’s debut than most fans realise.

Kubrick’s The Killing wasn’t a major blockbuster in its time, but it marked a shift in how crime stories were told. Adapted from Lionel White’s novel Clean Break, the film follows a racetrack heist through a fractured timeline, showing the same event from multiple angles. It wasn’t just about what happened, but how it was told. That structure, jumping back and forth in time, switching viewpoints, was rare in Hollywood then and made the story feel more intense and unpredictable.
