FURNITURE retailer Oak Furnitureland celebrated the opening of its first store in Slough and 100th in the country by donating a cake structure to charity organisation Khalsa Aid.
Slough mayor Paul Sohal inaugurated the store.
The cake was modelled on Ravi Singh, CEO of Khalsa Aid, and it depicted him as a modern-day knight riding on a horseback delivering food to those in need.
Khalsa Aid supports Langar Aid, a project that focuses on providing meals to communities.
Langar is a term used to describe the Sikh philosophy of a free kitchen where food is provided to all people, regardless of their background or ethnicity.
Oak Furnitureland said its cake was commissioned to support the charity's work.
Singh said he was delighted and added: “It’s a crazy but wonderful idea to recreate me in cake and highlight our work in this way."
The cake sculpture was created by Rose Dummer from Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers, and it was shared with the public at the community homeless feeding sessions in Slough last Tuesday (5).
