Hurray for Zhalay Sarhadi

Hurray for Zhalay Sarhadi

PAKISTANI star Zhalay Sarhadi has shown off her impressive versatility as an acclaimed actress, popular host, talented singer, YouTuber and social media influencer.

She has started 2021 in top gear with her new musical show Kashmiri Beats, which features winning performances, big named celebrities, important discussions and more of her superb singing skills.

Eastern Eye caught up with Zhalay Sarhadi to discuss her action-packed journey, new show and future hopes.

What first connected you to creativity?

My father was an architect and an artist. As a child, I was always drawn to his work and wanted to be just like him. He dabbled with singing, knew classical dance, acted in plays and was brilliant at drawing. Hence, my inspiration came from him.

You are multi-talented, but out of acting, hosting and singing, which do you enjoy the most?

This career has given me much joy and a remarkable amount of creative release. My first love has always been music but acting is a very close second.

Which acting role gave you the greatest joy?

Every character I play gives me a chance to live another’s life. The process of each and every portrayal has been unique and satisfying. It would be unfair to choose one.

Who has been the most memorable person you have interviewed?

Again, I cannot state just a single person.

Tell us something about your latest project?

I am currently working on two serials, a web film, then a cameo in another web series and a singing stint on musical show Kashmir Beats. Blessed, Masha Allah. Also, I recently started my own YouTube channel and regularly interview interesting personalities who have inspired me in some way or another. If you want to check it out, it is called Zhalay Talks.

Will you be doing more singing now?

Yes, I have always been keen on bringing out my sur and taal abilities. This is the first step towards a new dimension I want to explore fully.

What is it that inspires you creatively?

People inspire me. Their lives, emotions, talent and resilience into making their dreams come true inspires me greatly.

You have conquered TV, but do you have a great unfulfilled ambition?

I haven’t conquered any arena so far. So, acting and singing, both, are unfulfilled ambitions.

What kind of content do you enjoy watching as an audience member?

I love watching action movies or serials in general, but hardcore drama is also something I love to view. Most of all, I love comedy content.

What are your big passions away from work?

Being the best mother to my daughter, a good daughter to my parents, a solid dependable friend and all in all, being happy and being a source of happiness for the people around me.

Menopause mindfulness: Using MBCT to ease emotional and  mental challenges

Mita Mistry

The heat flares up, then fades, leaving behind a chill of uncertainty. Menopause is not just a physical challenge; it is a profound emotional shift, a re-evaluation of identity, roles and the future. What begins with whispers – missed periods, sleepless nights, brain fog – can escalate into a roar, drowning out the quiet undercurrents of emotional upheaval.

We may find ourselves lost, questioning who we are, grappling with a sense of loss, and battling the unwelcome guests of anxiety and irritability.

10 best canal holidays in Britain for summer 2025

With record numbers choosing narrowboats over airports, canal holidays are enjoying a resurgence in Britain. Whether it's a leisurely week along the Llangollen or a weekend loop through the Midlands, the UK’s canal network offers a peaceful, scenic alternative to crowded beaches or city breaks. Here are 10 of the best canal routes to explore this summer.

1. Llangollen Canal, Wales to Shropshire

This picturesque route winds from Llangollen in Wales to the English market town of Whitchurch. The highlight is the spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where boats cross a 38-metre-high cast-iron trough. Along the way, travellers pass through verdant countryside, charming villages, and the Horseshoe Falls. It’s one of the most photographed waterways in Britain.
