Though India has a long battle to fight when it comes to protecting the rights of people with different sexual orientations, Bollywood keeps trying to bring the topic of sexual minorities to the table through films.
Showing its progressive nature, Hindi cinema has made many memorable films in the last few years, which dealt with the topic of homosexuality. And the next film, which is said to be touching upon the topic is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Padmavati.
According to reports, Ranveer Singh, who plays the male lead Alauddin Khilji in Padmavati, will not only romance Deepika Padukone in the film but also actor Jim Sarbh. Alauddin Khilji was bisexual and, staying true to the facts, Bhansali has decided to include that chapter of the history in his film also.
If the several reports of Ranveer Singh playing a bisexual in Padmavati are true, it will be for the first time in Bollywood when a top actor performs such a challenging role.
Besides Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, Padmavati also stars Shahid Kapoor and Aditi Rao Hydari in important roles.
