Confirmed! Alia Bhatt is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was all set to direct Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan in his next titled Inshallah. But Salman opted out of the film and the film, for now, has been shelved. However, there were reports that SLB will work with Alia for a film based on Gangubai who was a madam of a brothel in Kamathipura, Mumbai and was also connected with the underworld.

Finally, Alia took to Twitter to announce the film officially. Titled Gangubai Kathiawadi, the film will hit the screens on 11th September 2020. The actress tweeted, “A name you’ve heard a story you haven’t. #GangubaiKathiawadi ❤ This ones going to be special!! Directed by #SanjayLeelaBhansali, releasing 11 September 2020. @bhansali_produc @prerna982 @PenMovies @jayantilalgada.”

Well, Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai had a few chapters dedicated to the life story of Gangubai Kathiawadi. So, people who have read the book would know about her story. However, it will be interesting to witness her story on the big screen and with Sanjay Leela Bhansali directing it we can surely expect a grand project.

While Alia Bhatt will be seen in the lead role, the film will also have an actor who will be having an extended cameo. There were reports of Kartik Aaryan, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh being considered for the film. Reportedly, Ranveer has turned down the offer. Well, now we wait to know which actor will be seen with Alia in the film.

Apart from Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia Bhatt has films like Brahmastra, Sadak 2, and Takht in her kitty. Brahmastra was slated to release in December this year, but it has been postponed to Summer next year. Sadak 2 will hit the screens in July 2020 and Takht will reportedly release in December 2020. This means Alia will be having four releases next year.
