UK-based veteran Punjabi singer Balwinder Safri passed away on Tuesday at the age of 63. His family confirmed the news of his demise through a post on his Instagram handle.

Confirming the news, Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa took to Instagram and wrote, “We will cherish your music and contribution to Punjabi music forever sir. Rest in peace. Alvida sir Balwinder Safri.”


The 63-year-old Punjabi folk artist was on his way to recovery after heart surgery. After his surgery, he slipped into a coma after facing brain damage. He was at a rehabilitation centre after getting discharged from the hospital after 86 days.

Known as the Bhangra star, Balwinder Safri delivered a number of popular tracks like 'O Chan Mere Makhna', 'Pao Bhangra', 'Gal Sun Kuriye', 'Nachdinu,’ and many more.

After learning about his sad demise, several artists from the Punjabi music industry paid their condolences on social media.

Sharing a picture of Safri on Instagram, musician and actor Diljit Dosanjh wrote, “Waheguru Balwinder Safri Ji.”

Punjabi actor Neeru Bajwa took to Instagram and wrote, "Menu yaad hai Balwinder ji nu asi window tho dekya si during #beautifulbillo shoot... we were so excited. He so graciously came up to meet us. Don’t make them like that anymore… Thank you, Sir, for giving Punjabi music industry so much. You will forever live in our hearts #balwindersafri ji."

Legendary singer Gurdaas Maan shared a picture of the late singer and wrote, "Safri Saab" followed by joined-hand emoticons.

Singer Jassie Gill shared a video on his Instagram story, which features Gill, Babbal Rai along with the late singer Balwinder Safri. "Eh Mulakaat Hmesha yaad rahugi. Waheguru apne charna vch niwas bandhan,” he wrote in the caption.

Prosecutors in California have filed a criminal charge against Britney Spears following her arrest last month for allegedly driving under the influence.

The Ventura County District Attorney's Office filed the case on Thursday, charging the pop star with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Spears, 44, was arrested on 4 March on a southern California highway after authorities said she was driving her BMW "erratically at a high rate of speed". Her representatives have called the incident "completely inexcusable".
