“Whatever my waist size is, I’m forever being called fat,” says Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha has proved her mettle time and again. From headlining meaningful movies like Lootera (2013) and Mission Mangal (2019) to starring in out-and-out commercial potboilers like Rowdy Rathore (2012) and R… Rajkumar (2013), she has essayed a diverse range of characters ever since making her debut with Salman Khan’s Dabangg (2010) a decade ago.

The actress has gone through a lot to reach where she is today. She has been subjected to body shamming even before she decided to be an actress. However, she always remained determined and never allowed negativity to bog her down. But trollers and haters do not leave any moment to comment on her weight even today.

“Someone comes up with something and that sticks with you forever. Whatever my waist size is, I am forever being called fat. It is quite unpleasant really. Especially since I was heavily overweight at one point and had put in a lot of effort to shed those extra kilos before joining Bollywood. I knew it is a visual medium and I had to look a certain way to become an actor,” said the actress in an interview.

She went on to add that she is happy to be breaking the stereotype for heroines, but highlighted this was not the case when she joined the industry, “For me, it was a great achievement to have lost 30 kilos. I had never looked as good as I did and I was feeling rather proud of it. So, it hit me real hard when people said, ‘Oh, she is too fat to be an actress’. Yes, I was too fat, but I had lost all those extra kilos to be here.”

On the work front, Sonakshi Sinha is presently shooting for her upcoming film Bhuj: The Pride of India. Co-starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Rana Daggubati and Pranitha Subhash, the patriotic drama is scheduled to release on 14th August, 2020.
