Was it challenging for Akshay Kumar to interview PM Narendra Modi? Here’s what the actor has to say

It was a few months ago when Akshay Kumar interviewed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The interview had gone viral and it was really amusing to see a Bollywood actor interviewing Prime Minister of India.

Recently, during a media interaction, when Akshay was asked if it was challenging for him to interview Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the actor said, “No, I was just being myself and there was no challenge. I was just talking to him. As a civilian I wanted to know what he is as a person, I just wanted to know that. I asked the questions and he answered.”

Well, it was a non-political interview and PM Modi revealed a lot about his personal life too. He had stated that he never thought he would become Prime Minister of India. PM Modi had said, "The kind of background I come from even if I would have got a decent job my mother would have been distributing laddoos among neighbours. This is unnatural for me, sometimes I am amazed why the country loves me so much.”

The Prime Minister while talking to Akshay had also revealed that he loves mangoes. PM Modi had said, “I love mangoes. Gujarat has a tradition of Aamras as well. While growing up, we did not have the luxury to buy mangoes. But I loved plucking mangoes directly from the tree. It used to be the best.”

Even Akshay’s wife and actress Twinkle Khanna was a part of their conversation. So, when Akshay asked PM Modi if he follows people on social media, the Prime Minister had said, "Main aapka bhi Twitter dekhta hoon aur Twinkle Khanna ji ka Twitter dekhta hoon. Kabhi Kabhi toh mujhe lagta hai ki vo mere upar gussa nikaalti hai Twitter pe, toh uske kaaran aapke parivaarik jeevan mein badi shaanti rehti hogi. Unka pura gussa mujpe nikal jaata hoga isliye aapko araam rehta hoga. Toh is prakaar se main aapke kaam aaya hoon. (I also see your Twitter and Twinkle Khanna ji's Twitter as well. Sometimes I feel she takes out all her anger on me on Twitter because of which there would be a lot of peace in your married life. All her anger comes out on me, so you would be relaxed. So, like this I have been useful to you).

Talking about Akshay’s movies, the actor will next be seen on the big screen in Mission Mangal which is slated to release on 15th August 2019.

Highlights

  • Anurag Kashyap calls Dhurandhar a “significant” and “brilliant” film despite disagreeing with parts of its politics
  • Says he ignored what he viewed as propaganda lines and concentrated on the filmmaking
  • Compares the film to Hollywood war dramas often criticised for political messaging

Kashyap’s review singles out craft over ideology

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has added his voice to the praise for Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar, saying he admired the film even though he did not agree with all of its political messaging. Writing on Letterboxd, Kashyap said he chose to look past what he felt were a couple of propaganda-heavy moments and instead focus on the quality of the filmmaking.

He noted that hostility towards an enemy state is often built into the genre itself, adding that he had no issue with that aspect. However, he pointed to two specific dialogues that troubled him, saying that setting them aside allowed the film to work strongly on its own terms. He described Dhurandhar as a good, and ultimately brilliant, film largely set in Pakistan.
