Toilet: Ek Prem Katha opens across 4300 screens in China

The Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, was one of the most successful films of 2017, which earned over ₹ 133.66 crores before wrapping up its lifetime run. Beating his 2012 release, Rowdy Rathore, it still remains the highest grossing film of Kumar’s three-decade-long movie career. After putting up a great show in India, the film opened in China today.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has released in the Chinese market as Toilet Hero. It hit across 4300 screens in the neighbouring country. This screen count is more than double if compared to the number of screens the movie was released in India.

"Delighted that our film Toilet Ek Prem Katha is continuing to break new grounds and is all set to release as "Toilet Hero" across 4300 screens in China on 8th June,” wrote Akshay Kumar on his Twitter handle.


The film has been released in China by Anil Ambani led Reliance Entertainment. It is the first release of the company in China in last 7 years. The last film which they released in the Chinese market was the Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi starrer, 3 Idiots.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is directed by Shree Narayan Singh. It was presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and KriArj Entertainment and co-produced by Friday Filmworks, Cape of Good Films and Abundantia Entertainment.

Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
