Firoz Nadiadwala confirms reuniting with Akshay, Suniel and Paresh for Hera Pheri 3

After popular filmmaker Indra Kumar announced his association with the next instalment of the Hera Pheri (2000) film franchise with a tweet on his Twitter handle, now producer Firoz Nadiadwala has also confirmed the much-awaited project.

Hera Pheri 2, the second instalment of the successful series, hit the screens in 2006. Planning for Hera Pheri 3 had begun in 2014 itself but the deteriorating health of writer-director Neeraj Vora and some differences which cropped up between Nadiadwala and male lead Akshay Kumar impeded the production. Neeraj Vora’s death in 2017 was another jolt which led the producer to put the film on the backburner.

However, Firoz has now sorted his differences with the actor and is ready to bankroll Hera Pheri 3 with a bang. “Time is the greatest healer. Akshay is a fabulous actor and an even better human being. We sorted out issues, and he is back in Hera Pheri,” said the producer.

Revealing how did he come about roping in Indra Kumar to helm the next instalment of the franchise, Firoz said, “Indra is a director who understands the sur and taal of an Indian comedy. With his experience, he is best qualified to take over the Hera Pheri franchise. I have full confidence that this one will turn out to be as successful as the first two films.”

Starring the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal in lead roles, Hera Pheri 3 is expected to begin its productions by the end of the year. Director Indra Kumar is planning to wrap up the film in a start-to-finish schedule between December 2018 to February 2019.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
