Fan Club Of The Week - Prabhas

SUPERSTAR actor Prabhas has smashed records in recent years and continued to delight his rapidly-growing legion of fans. They all follow his every move and are eagerly looking forward to the release of his next film Saaho. A group of friends from Medak and Siddipet who admire Prabhas run a fan club on Twitter dedicated to the actor. Eastern Eye caught up with them to find out more...

What made you decide to set up the fan club?

We started the fan club to get in touch with all the fans and share all the information regarding our hero. At first we started as a Telangana fans group, but then went national and international. Today we have followers from all over.

Tell us about your fan club?

We are followers of Prabhas and celebrate everything about him. We get information from all over, including events taking place, and share it with fans online.

What has been your best moment?

When his wax statue was placed at Madame Tussauds.

What is your favourite thing that you like about Prabhas?

We love his down-to-earth nature.

What is your favourite work of his?

We love all of his work, so can’t single out just one project.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about Prabhas?

He does a lot of work for charity but never makes a big show of it. He loves his fans and has immense respect for them. He has even allotted specific days so that his fans could meet him personally without much hassle. He does not promote himself extensively like other leading Tollywood stars because he believes that his work should speak for him more than anything. Hence one might have never seen him in any advertisements or random interviews.

What is your definition of a true fan?

If you are a fan of someone, you can’t hate anything about them. You’ll always try to follow them in all manner of things, be it style, nature, humbleness, helping nature, behaviour and more.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
