Confirmed: Shahid Kapoor is heading to Amazon Prime Video for digital debut

By: Mohnish Singh

Shahid Kapoor, who made his silver screen debut with Ishq Vishk (2003) and went on to solidify his position by delivering such box-office hits as Vivah (2006), Jab We Met (2007), Kaminey (2009), and more recently Kabir Singh (2019), is set to make his digital debut with a quirky drama thriller. The untitled show will be directed by Raj and DK for streaming media giant Amazon Prime Video.

In a statement, Kapoor said, “My favourite Indian show on Amazon Prime Video is The Family Man. I could not think of anyone better for my digital debut than them (Raj & DK). I loved the story idea when I first heard it and since then it has been an exciting ride so far! (I) can’t wait to share this series with the audience.”

Raj and DK said that they are trying to raise the bar with their new show. “For us, the objective is always to challenge ourselves to do better with every film or series we do. This is our favourite script and has truly been a labour of love. We found a perfect match in Shahid! He was always our first choice for this series. We hit it off immediately, and have been on the same page from the first time we spoke. Shahid is an exciting actor to watch and work with! The intensity he brings to his roles is amazing,” they said in a statement.

Last seen in Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor next headlines in the Hindi remake of superhit Telugu film Jersey (2019). Also starring Mrunal Thakur in the lead role, the sports drama has been directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who helmed the original film.

Jersey is scheduled to enter cinemas on November 5, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. The film will lock horns with Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar’s historical drama Prithviraj at the box-office as both films arrive on the same date.
