Ayushmann Khurrana becomes the new Celebrity Advocate for UNICEF’s children's rights campaign

Ayushmann Khurrana is undoubtedly one of the most popular Bollywood actors. In the past few years, he has starred in many successful films and movies that are also socially relevant.

Well now, the actor has been appointed by UNICEF as its celebrity advocate for children's rights campaign - 'For Every Child'. He will be supporting UNICEF towards ending violence against children.

Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque, a UNICEF representative in India, said they are delighted to have Ayushmann on board as a UNICEF celebrity advocate because they believe that his support will help in creating awareness about the issue.  Haque said, “He will bring sensitivity, passion, and a powerful voice for every child, with a specific focus towards ending violence against children. Ayushmann's support will help increase awareness about this important issue, especially now with COVID-19 heightening the risk of violence and abuse against children due to the extended lockdown and the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic.”

Ayushmann Khurrana took to Instagram to inform everyone about it. He posted a video and captioned it as, “#ENDviolence Proud to be the new Celebrity Advocate for @unicefindia and bring some much-needed attention to #ENDviolence against children. Join us!”

The actor, who has two kids, said in his statement, "As I watch my children play in the safety and happiness of our home, I think about all the children who never get to experience a safe childhood and grow up with violence at home or outside. With UNICEF, I look forward to supporting the rights of the most vulnerable children, so that they grow up as happier, healthier, educated citizens in nurturing environments free from violence.”

Talking about his movies, Ayushmann will be seen in Abhishek Kapoor’s next which also stars Vaani Kapoor in the lead role. The actor also has a film with Anubhav Sinha in his kitty.

Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
