Alia to get into iconic actress Sridevi's shoes for ChaalBaaz remake

When it comes to making out-and-out comic capers, David Dhawan tops the list of filmmakers who always gets it right. The director, who just delivered one of the biggest blockbusters of 2017, Judwaa 2, is now planning to remake the Sridevi starrer film ChaalBaaz, and if reports are to be believed, Alia Bhatt might bag the lead role.

The 1989 film is still fresh in the minds of the audience for Sridevi's iconic performance in a double role. The film, which itself was a remake of Hema Malini's 1973 successful film Seeta Aur Geeta, might see its remake after three decades.

Recently, there were reports that after watching Judwaa 2, Alia Bhatt was so impressed by Dhawan's film that she herself got in touch with the filmmaker and expressed her desire to star in Judwaa 3 if it is ever made, but loos like the director had some other plans for the actress.

“When I had gone to him (David Dhawan), asking to be cast in the next instalment of Judwaa, David sir told me ‘I have a better role for you in comparison to Judwaa 3’. The next time I told him about my wish again, he said ‘Not in Judwaa 3, you have to work with me in the ChaalBaaz remake’,” the actress revealed during a recent media interaction.

Interestingly, even Sridevi feels that Alia is the only actress from the current crop, who can do full justice to her character in ChaalBaaz. She had said in a statement, “And if it’s remade, the one actress who could fit in that double role of mine is Alia.”

Alia Bhatt will be seen next in Meghna Gulzar's Raazi opposite Vicky Kaushal.
