Shahid Kapoor on saying yes to Arjun Reddy remake

Most recently seen in Shree Narayan Singh’s social drama movie Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018), actor Shahid Kapoor is now gearing up to star in the Hindi remake of critically acclaimed and commercially successful Telugu movie, Arjun Reddy (2018).

Recently, when the Haider (2014) star was asked what drew him towards the project, he said, “I wanted to try this part and see what I can do with this. I was curious enough to take it on and excited enough to not let it go.”

Shahid Kapoor, who has grown beard to play his part convincingly, also revealed that though he does not watch too many Telugu films, when he saw Arjun Reddy, he was surprised.

“I usually don’t watch too many films in Telugu and it surprised me with its tonality, rawness, simplicity and the fact that it was so real and believable. The character is very fascinating for me as an actor because the emotional arc… is very original. I loved it and Vijay Deverakonda, who played Arjun, did it so well,” he added.

The Arjun Reddy remake is being directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He also directed the original film. Talking about the female lead, actress Kiara Advani has been roped in to essay the female part.

Produced by T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar, the film starts production in November.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
