Rani Mukerji & Saif Ali Khan join the cast of Bunty Aur Babli 2

Rani Mukerji, who is riding high on the runaway success of Mardaani 2 (2019) has been signed on to play a pivotal role in Bunty Aur Babli 2. Along with her, Saif Ali Khan has also joined the star cast of the upcoming comic-caper.

As the title suggests itself, Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a sequel to the 2005 hit Bunty Aur Babli, originally starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. The hugely anticipated sequel will see a time leap of 10 years and feature two pairs of Bunty and Babli. Yash Raj Films had earlier announced that Gully Boy (2019) fame Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutante Sharvari will play the new conmen in the sequel.

Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji have come onboard to play the original Bunty and Babli in the rebooted sequel. The duo, who has previously delivered hits like Hum Tum (2004) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), is reuniting after a massive gap of 11 years to bring their magic back on screen.

Saif Ali Khan, who is excited to be a part of the franchise, says, “Bunty Aur Babli 2 is a completely rebooted sequel and is set in today’s time. It is a fantastic script that hooked me on instantly. It is an out and out entertainer for the entire family to sit and enjoy and this is what I loved and connected with. Also, it’s a new role for me, new language and milieu and that’s what I really look for in a script. I also love the dynamics between the originals and the new Bunty Babli in the film. It’s fresh, hilarious and extremely engaging. Rani and I have always had a lot of fun working with each other and I’m looking forward to our creative collaboration again. It’s also equally amazing to be back home at YRF again.”

Rani Mukerji says, “The original Bunty Aur Babli got tremendous love and appreciation from audiences and it is their love that has made YRF decide to make the sequel. Abhishek and I were both approached by YRF to reprise our roles as the originals in Bunty Aur Babli 2 but, unfortunately, things didn’t work out with him and we will miss him dearly. As a team, we are so happy to welcome Saif. I have lovely memories of working with him and I’m really looking forward to creating something new and exciting with him in Bunty Aur Babli 2. Hopefully, audiences will give us the same love that they have given our earlier films.”

Produced by Aditya Chopra, Bunty Aur Babli 2 will be directed by Varun Sharma, who was an assistant director on blockbusters Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017).

UK becomes key hurdle for Paramount's £81 billion Warner Bros. Discovery takeover

  • The UK government is considering intervening in Paramount Skydance's proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Ministers want to assess the deal's impact on media plurality, news diversity and streaming services.
  • Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have until July 6 to respond before a decision is made.

The Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger has cleared several major regulatory hurdles around the world, but the proposed £81 billion ($110 billion) deal is now facing fresh scrutiny in the UK. The British government is considering intervening on public interest grounds, raising the possibility of further delays to one of the largest media transactions in recent years.

The potential intervention centres on concerns over media plurality, news diversity and the future of television and streaming services available to UK audiences. If ministers decide to proceed, the transaction could face a more detailed investigation despite already receiving approvals in markets including the US, China, Australia, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia.
