Rakesh Roshan to go ahead with Krrish 4 after lockdown

Krrish is undeniably one of the most successful film franchises that Bollywood has ever produced. It gave Indian audiences their first homegrown superhero, played brilliantly by Hrithik Roshan.

Ever since Krrish 3 (2013) rocked the box-office, fans have been waiting for the fourth instalment of the superhero franchise with bated breath. Seeing the huge demand, director-producer Rakesh Roshan announced Krrish 4 in 2016, but he had to put the project on hold for a variety of reasons, one of them being his poor health condition. He was even diagnosed with throat cancer in 2019.

Senior Roshan started working on the film right after winning his battle against cancer. He has now revealed that he is ready with the fourth installment of the Krrish franchise but is waiting for the current pandemic to be over before proceeding with the final details.

“As soon as everything is fine again, we shall go ahead with the fourth instalment of Krrish,” said the filmmaker, who has only been collaborating with his son, Hrithik Roshan, ever since his debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000).

While Hrithik Roshan is set to get into his superhero avatar again, the makers are yet to finalize the female lead for Krrish 4. Several names, including Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, have cropped up in the past though.

As per the media reports, HR will essay a double role in the upcoming instalment of the franchise. Yes, you read it absolutely right! According to reports, the War (2019) actor is most likely to play both the protagonist and antagonist in Krrish 4.

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
