SENIOR doctors in England will be balloted for strike action after talks with the government failed to make progress and last week’s pay award was considered insufficient, the British Medical Association (BMA) said on Tuesday.

The union said parallel ballots of hospital consultants and specialist, associate specialist and specialty doctors will take place from May 11 to July 6.

If approved, the move could leave the government facing the risk of industrial action by all doctors working in secondary care in England at the same time.
