Kabir Singh scores a sensational ₹ 235 crore at the domestic box-office

Toplined by Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Kabir Singh (2019) has surprised one and all with the kind of response it has been generating at the box-office ever since hitting the silver screen on 21st June. Literally, no one had thought that the movie, which is an official remake of Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy (2017), would go so far at the cash counter, raking in the huge moolah for the makers.

Kabir Singh amassed a huge sum on its third weekend in theatres. It closed out the weekend by netting an impressive ₹ 22 crore, taking its cumulative collection to a sensational ₹ 235.72 crore. This is a huge sum considering the fact that the movie stars no Khan or Kumar. Kabir Singh has already emerged as the biggest blockbuster of Shahid Kapoor’s career. If it continues to maintain the momentum in the coming days as well, it still has the steam to leave several blockbusters far behind in terms of collection.

The film has already zoomed past the lifetime of collection of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Chennai Express (2013) and Salman Khan’s Kick (2014). Sharing the fantabulous journey of the film so far, noted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on his Twitter handle that Kabir Singh pocketed almost Rs. 10 crore on Sunday preceded by Rs. 7.51 crore on Saturday, which is pretty impressive for a film in its third week. "Kabir Singh hits the ball out of the park on (third) Sun... Collects a fantastic number in Weekend 3... Crosses *lifetime biz* of Kick and Chennai Express," tweeted Adarsh.

Kabir Singh is now gearing up to smash the box-office records set by Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike which enjoys the status of the biggest blockbuster of 2019. Shahid Kapoor’s film is definitely going to put a massive total before wrapping up its journey at the box-office. It really will be interesting to see which upcoming release breaks its records.

The stupendous performance of Kabir Singh is welcome news for the domestic box-office in India, which has been struggling for blockbuster films this year. Produced by Cine1 Studios and T-Series Films, Kabir Singh is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He also helmed the original Telugu film.
