I'm proud to be identified as Shahid Kapoor's brother: Ishaan Khatter

Dhadak actor Ishaan Khatter is proud to be known as Shahid Kapoor's brother.

The youngster, who is the son of actress Neelima Azeem, said there is no shame in being identified as Shahid's brother.

"I have no intention to make a name for myself and to separate my identity from my brother's name. I am proud to be identified as Shahid's brother, there is no shame in it," Ishaan told IANS.

Shahid is Neelima's son with her first husband Pankaj Kapur, and Ishaan is her son with Rajesh Khatter.

Ishaan added that creating an identity for him was never his motive. "I believe if you are sincere with your work and you are good at it, then your identity will be created by default. Though it feels good if I am getting acknowledged for my work," he added.

Janhvi Kapoor, the eldest daughter of the late Sridevi, plays Ishaan's love interest in the movie. Dhadak is directed by Shashank Khaitan and it is a remake of the National Award-winning Marathi film Sairat.

Janhvi first saw the Marathi blockbuster Sairat with her mother and she was immediately enamoured by the tragic love story of Archi and Parshya. At the time she had reportedly expressed a desire to be part of a similar venture.

"The feeling was overwhelming when I sat with my mother in her bedroom and saw Sairat for the first time," Janhvi told City Times. "I remember being invested and involved in the story, their characters and their love. It was a feeling that I cannot put into words. I was dumbfounded for the longest time. At that point, I had decided that I wanted to act but I didn't know anything about Dhadak. I was in awe of what Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar (lead stars of Sairat) had done for their characters. I had no idea that I would get an opportunity to debut in a movie like this but I did tell my mother that I would love to go on a journey like the story of this film."

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
