Hit pair of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan to reunite

Superstar Akshay Kumar has worked with several filmmakers in his close to three decades long career. But when you ask him to name that one filmmaker who changed his action star image and helped him explore other genres, especially comedy, he never forgets to credit celebrated filmmaker Priyadarshan.

The duo first collaborated on Hera Pheri (2000), an out-and-out comedy film which has gained cult status over the years. Their second offering was Garam Masala, which also turned out to be an instant hit at the box-office. In the following years, the two worked on such successful comedies as Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and De Dana Dan (2009). It was in the year 2010 that the duo worked together for the last time on the film Khatta Meetha.

Now, nearly a decade later, one of the most successful actor-director duos of Bollywood is set to reunite once again. In a recent conversation with a newswire, director Priyadarshan confirmed to be working with Akshay Kumar once again. The filmmaker said that he was still working on the script and the movie was most likely to start rolling next year, around September or October. The filmmaker goes on to add that Akshay Kumar completely trusts him with his movies and that he is glad that they are working together again.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is presently busy promoting his next film Good Newwz. Co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh, the movie is set to buzz into theatres on 27th December. The superstar will begin 2020 with the release of Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Sooryavanshi followed by horror comedy Laxmmi Bomb. His much-awaited historical drama Prithviraj, which the superstar announced on his 52nd birthday, releases on Diwali 2020.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
