From ’83 to Jersey, sports-based films we will get to watch on the big screen this year

In 2019, we didn’t get to see many sports-based films apart from Student Of The Year 2, The Zoya Factor and Saand Ki Aankh. However, 2020 is going to be different as many filmmakers have planned to showcase us different sports on the big screen.

So, let’s look at the list of sports-based movies that we will get to watch this year…

Panga

The first one in the list is Ashiwny Iyer Tiwary’s Panga starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. Kangana plays the role of a Kabaddi player in the film who makes her comeback after getting married and having a child. Kangana has taken professional training in Kabaddi for the film and Panga surely looks like an interesting movie.

’83

India won its first World Cup in the year 1983. We will get to witness the iconic moment on the big screen in Kabir Khan’s ’83. The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Amrita Puri, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Jiiva, Sahil Khattar, and others. ’83 is clearly one of the most awaited films of 2020.

Jersey

Last year, Shahid Kapoor was seen in Kabir Singh, a remake of Telugu movie Arjun Reddy. This year, he will be seen in Jersey, a remake of Telugu movie which had the same name. The film revolves around a character who returns to cricket at the age when players plan to take retirement. The Telugu film was damn good, so we have a lot of expectations from the remake.

Toofan

After Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar have teamed up for a movie titled Toofan. The film revolves around a national-level boxer played by Farhan Akhtar. The posters of the film have impressed us a lot.

Maidaan

Ajay Devgn and Keerthy Suresh will be seen on the big screen in a film titled Maidaan which revolves around football. Ajay will be seen portraying the character of the football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Directed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan is slated to release in November this year.

While these films have a release date locked, we also have other sports-based movies that are announced but the release dates are not yet finalised. Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in a film titled Jhund which is about football. It was slated to release in 2019, but the new release date is yet to be announced. Taapsee Pannu has two sports-based films Rashmi Rocket and Shabaash Mithu in her kitty. Reportedly, Anushka Sharma will also be seen in a biopic on cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
