Deepika Padukone shares her first look from Chhapaak; also announces the film’s release date

On Monday, Bollywood fans woke up to a beautiful surprise by the reigning queen of the Hindi film industry, Deepika Padukone. The talented actress, who was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s costume drama Padmaavat (2018), took to her Instagram account to share her first look from her next film, Chhapaak.

To be directed by renowned filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who recently walked away with Filmfare Best Director trophy for her last directorial venture Raazi (2018), is calling the shots for Chhapaak, a film which is based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Padukone plays Agarwal in the much-awaited movie. However, her character name will be Malti.


Talking about the first look of the actress in the film, she is seen wearing prosthetic makeup so as to highlight the scars and burns on her character’s face. Apart from unveiling her first look, Deepika also announced the official release date of the movie.

Also featuring Vikrant Massey in the lead role, Chhapaak will roll into cinemas on 10th January, 2020. “A character that will stay with me forever, Malti. Shoot begins today! Chhapaak, releasing-10th January, 2020,” Padukone wrote on Instagram.

Chhapaak, which begins its production today, will lock horns with Ajay Devgn’s period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior upon its release on January 10, 2020.

Steven Spielberg has revealed that one of the biggest franchises in cinema repeatedly turned him down, despite his efforts to join it at the height of his early success.

Speaking on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast while promoting his latest film Disclosure Day, the Oscar-winning filmmaker recalled how he twice attempted to secure a James Bond directing job. Although he had admired the franchise since watching Dr. No, his requests to direct a Bond film were rejected by longtime producer Cubby Broccoli.
