Bhumi Pednekar to headline Akshay Kumar’s Durgavati

Bhumi Pednekar is on a roll! She is busy bagging one exciting project after another. After being confirmed for Dharma Productions’ Takht and Bhoot: Part One - The Haunted Ship, the actress has been signed on to play the female lead in an upcoming horror film, titled Durgavati.

Bhumi has had an exciting 2019 and 2020 seems equally promising for her. She recently delivered two superhit films – Saand Ki Aankh and Bala – and is currently awaiting the release of her next Pati Patni Aur Woh, which also features Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday on its cast. Helmed by Mudassar Aziz, the comic-caper is scheduled to enter theatres on 6th December, 2019.


In 2020, she will be first seen in Bhoot: Part One - The Haunted Ship, a horror film which features Vicky Kaushal as the leading man. Bhoot: Part One - The Haunted Ship releases on 21st February and is expected to be followed by Alankrita Shrivastava’s Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. Karan Johar’s ambitious period drama Takht, which also has Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal on the cast, may arrive towards the end of 2020.

And now, she has signed Durgavati which will be presented by her Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) co-star Akshay Kumar and T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar. To be directed by Ashik, the upcoming scary thriller is produced by Vikram Malhotra from Abundantia Entertainment. Durgavati goes on the shooting floors in January 2020. The official release date of the film is yet to be announced.

Kalki 2 continues to hold attention despite the long wait

Sequels often struggle to maintain momentum when production stretches over several years, but Kalki 2 continues to generate strong interest even without regular updates from the team.

Much of that anticipation comes from the world created by Nag Ashwin in Kalki 2898 AD, which ended with several unresolved story threads and set the stage for a larger cinematic universe. The scale of the film, combined with its mythology-inspired storytelling and ensemble cast, has kept conversations around the sequel alive.
