Avinash Tiwary to join Parineeti Chopra on The Girl On The Train remake

After a long wait and some major reshuffle in the primary cast, filmmaker Ribhu Dasgupta is finally gearing up to start his upcoming directorial venture, which is an official remake of Hollywood film, The Girl On The Train. When the project first made it to the headlines in 2018, Jacqueline Fernandez was set to play the female lead in it. However, the actress quit the movie later and Parineeti Chopra was brought onboard as her replacement.

The latest update on the project is that the makers have reportedly signed on talented actor Avinash Tiwary to join the cast alongside Parineeti Chopra. Tiwary came to limelight after delivering an intense performance in Ekta Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali’s romantic film, Laila Majnu (2018). If reports are to be believed, he will play the character of Parineeti Chopra’s ex-husband in the remake. The role was played by Justin Theroux in the original.

Spilling some beans on the development, a trade source informs an Indian daily, “Avinash has a great screen presence, and the makers needed an actor who also did not have too much of an image, as it is principally a female-driven subject and the male should not have any audience sympathy at any point.”

According to reports, The Girl On The Train remake will begin production next month in England. The makers are yet to lock the official release date of the film. However, if all goes well, the movie may hit the silver screen in the first half of 2020.

More details on the project are awaited.

What Britain’s ban on strangulation porn really means and why campaigners say it could backfire

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
