Asian school teacher wins ‘Oscars of Education’

AN Asian school teacher from Harrow was honoured at the TES Awards 2024 last week, a statement said.

Neetu Sadhwani won the Subject Lead of the Year (secondary) award at the event dubbed the ‘Oscars of Education’ held in London last Friday (21).


She is head of faculty of Modern Foreign Languages at Avanti House Secondary School and Harrow Collegiate subject lead.

According to the statement, the Hindu faith school has also been shortlisted for an award of £39,000 at the World's Best Schools Prize.

Sadhwani, who has taught at Avanti House Secondary School since 2015, was chosen out of a national field of educators across both the state and independent sectors.

She said, “I am deeply honoured and excited to have received the award. This recognition feels like a dream come true. My passion for education, and especially for the teaching and learning of foreign languages, has always driven me, and this award is a testament to the power of sharing knowledge, positive teamwork, good leadership, and perseverance.

"Special thanks to my family for their unwavering support and belief in me. This award celebrates the transformative power of education and the magic of believing in your dreams.”

Based in Stanmore, Avanti House Secondary School is part of the multi-academy Avanti Schools Trust.

Simon Arnell, principal at Avanti House Secondary School, said, “Sadhwani has ensured that students who study French and Spanish at Avanti House Secondary School receive outstanding learning and teaching every single day in Modern Foreign Languages. All students enjoy a range of immersive activities to ensure they reflect and engage upon the cultural richness that studying a language brings to the lives of students."

Warm spell returns after short-lived fresher weather

A south-westerly airflow replacing the recent westerlies will begin drawing warmer air back into the country.
