Akshay Kumar donates ₹ 1 crore to Assam floods

Lending his helping hand to the people of flood-stricken Assam, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has donated ₹ 1 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Before him, star sprinter Hima Das, who hails from the northeast Indian state, also donated half of her monthly salary towards relief work.

Besides donating ₹ 1 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, Kumar also donated the same amount to the Kaziranga National Park, which is known to house the largest population of one-horned rhinos in the world. Reportedly, ninety percent of the park is currently inundated.


On Wednesday, Akshay Kumar took to his Twitter handle and tweeted, "Absolutely heartbreaking to know about the devastation by floods in Assam. All affected, humans or animals, deserve support in this hour of crisis. I'd like to donate 1cr each to the CM Relief Fund and to Kaziranga Park rescue.” The star also urged everyone to contribute for the cause."Appealing to all to contribute," he added.

According to fresh reports, 15 people have already lost their lives in the devastating floods with the death toll continually on the rise. Over 46 lakh have been affected due to the floods as of Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is presently busy promoting his upcoming sci-fi film Mission Mangal. The much-awaited movie also stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menon, Kirti Kulhari and Sharman Joshi in important roles. It is scheduled to enter theatres on 15th August.

After the release of Mission Mangal, Kumar will be next seen in yet another multi-starrer Housefull 4. As the name aptly suggests, the movie is the fourth instalment of the super successful Hindi film franchise Housefull. Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Rana Daggubati, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hedge are also part of the ensemble cast. Housefull 4 releases on 26th October, 2019. His other projects include Sooryavanshi and Laxmmi Bomb.

Much of that anticipation comes from the world created by Nag Ashwin in Kalki 2898 AD, which ended with several unresolved story threads and set the stage for a larger cinematic universe. The scale of the film, combined with its mythology-inspired storytelling and ensemble cast, has kept conversations around the sequel alive.
