Ajay Devgn’s role in S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR revealed

After the humongous success of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), everyone is looking forward to the next release of celebrated filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli with bated breath. His next, tentatively titled RRR, is touted as another cinematic gem by the filmmaker.

There is huge hype surrounding the film for various reasons. One of them being its ensemble cast which includes the likes of Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. If reports are to be believed, RRR is a fictitious tale which centres on two Telugu freedom fighters Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR respectively.

Coming to the role which Ajay Devgn plays in the big-ticket film, sources close to the team divulge that the National Film Award-winning actor will be seen as Ram Charan's father. Confirming the same, a source tells an entertainment portal, "Ajay will be playing father to actor Ram Charan. The shoot of the film is going on in full swing as of now in Hyderabad's Ramoji Filmcity!"

Reportedly, Ajay Devgn was initially sceptical about coming onboard to play the part as it had less screen time. However, when Rajamouli narrated to him his part, he agreed to join the cast. "He wasn't sure because the part is not very long. It is almost like an extended cameo and he wasn't sure about doing it. But after a narration from Rajamouli, he got excited. It was also one reason why Ajay initially had given a statement saying he wasn't doing the film at all. Things worked out eventually," the source added.

Produced by DVV Danayya, RRR is all set for a wide release on July 30, 2020. The film will enter theatres in 10 languages across the world.

For Yash, Toxic became an opportunity to explore new ideas

Yash says ‘men and women see life differently’ as 'Toxic' brings a new perspective to storytelling

Highlights

  • Yash says Geethu Mohandas brought a layered and different perspective to Toxic
  • The actor resisted repeating the formula behind K.G.F: Chapter 2
  • Toxic is being developed with a global outlook while remaining rooted in Indian storytelling

Four years after the success of K.G.F: Chapter 2, Yash is returning with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, but not in the way many expected. Instead of following a familiar path after one of India’s biggest box-office hits, the actor says he deliberately moved away from projects that felt designed to recreate past success. For Yash, Toxic became an opportunity to explore new ideas, challenge himself creatively and think about Indian cinema on a wider stage.

Moving away from formula and playing safe

Yash revealed that after K.G.F: Chapter 2, several ideas came his way that appeared to follow an expected pattern. Rather than capitalising on what had already worked, he was drawn to stories that demanded more thought and experimentation. That eventually led him to Geethu Mohandas and Toxic. While the film carries the visual language of a gangster drama, Yash explained that it also explores emotional complexity, moral ambiguity and darker aspects of human behaviour.
