Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershah delayed yet again

Dharma Productions’ blue-eyed boy Sidharth Malhotra was quite excited about beginning work on his next Shershah, a biopic on the Kargil war martyr Vikram Batra. After facing a series of delay for various reasons, the movie was about to begin production in January next year. However, it seems the project will face yet another delay.

A source close to the development reveals that the makers have unanimously decided to delay the film because when they reached Kashmir, where a major chunk of the film is planned to be shot, they realised the weather conditions would be too rough around January-February in the valley for shooting.

“A major chunk of the biopic needs to be shot in Kashmir. During the recce, the makers realised that the weather conditions would be too rough around January-February for shooting to progress smoothly. Hence, they took a unanimous call to push the schedule by a few months,” the source informed.

Sidharth, who will have free time because of this unexpected delay in the shoot, may kick-off his next with filmmaker Milap Zaveri. “Meanwhile, Sid will kick-start Milap’s revenge saga, which also features newbie Tara Sutaria, this December. It will be wrapped up around March 2019,” the source adds.

Shershah will be produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions. Sidharth Malhotra will also be seen in Ekta Kapoor’s much-talked-about film Jabariya Jodi wherein he reunites with his Hasee Toh Phasee co-star Parineeti Chopra after four years.

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
