Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero set for a solo release on 21st December

Last seen in the Imtiaz Ali-directed Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017), superstar Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up to grace the silver screen after a gap of more than a year. His next Zero, which is one of the most awaited Bollywood movies of 2018, is slated to hit the marquee on 21st December.

Earlier, the Aanand L Rai directorial was set to clash with veteran actor Anupam Kher’s much-talked-about film The Accidental Prime Minister and Hollywood’s fantasy flick Aquaman. However, now the release of both the films has been shifted to other dates, ensuring Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero faces to competition during its run at the box-office.

Upon being asked how the solo release of Zero is going to benefit the movie, renowned trade analyst told an entertainment portal, "When a big film like Zero is releasing in an ideal situation, you don't want any other competition to be there. However, big or small it is, you want the entire focus on your film only with no distractions. Apart from some media traction, they would definitely also take up some space at the box-office...at the ticket windows. Both APM and Aquaman are films which will have some standing of their own at the BO. There is certainly audience wanting to watch them, so it's good they have moved away making it a clear way for Zero at the box-office. APM is expected to be a strong content film for a higher-end audience and AQ is also expected to be dubbed and promoted aggressively. Both being shifted from the same date is a lot of comfort for makers and fans of Zero."

Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Colour Yellow Productions, Zero also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. All three lead actors of the movie were last seen together in celebrated filmmaker Yash Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).

What Britain’s ban on strangulation porn really means and why campaigners say it could backfire

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
