Ranbir Kapoor to team up with Kabir Singh helmer?

Telugu filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga is presently riding high on the riotous success of his recent release Kabir Singh (2019). Starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles, the movie turned out to be the highest-grossing film of 2019. After the humongous success of his debut film in Bollywood, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is now, reportedly, gearing up to begin work on his next directorial venture.

Though nothing much is known about his project at the moment, a leading Indian publication reports that Vanga is likely to rope in Ranbir Kapoor for his next film. Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, who co-produced Kabir Singh in association with Cine1 Studios, will bankroll the untitled movie.

A source tells the publication that Sandeep and Bhushan Kumar met yesterday to discuss the logistics and casting. “Sandeep narrated a story idea to Bhushan, who has liked it and will produce the film. They met yesterday to discuss the logistics and casting.”

The source goes on to add that even Ranbir Kapoor has liked the idea and if he agrees to come onboard, the project will start rolling only after his other commitments are done. “Ranbir has liked the concept and they will be meeting this week to discuss it further. Of course, even if Ranbir gives the nod, they will not be able to roll immediately because he has to wrap up two films, Brahmastra and Shamshera, first and is committed to a third, Luv Ranjan’s next with Ajay (Devgn) and Deepika (Padukone), which is being produced by Luv and Bhushan.”

Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018), a biopic on controversial Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt. The film did exceptionally well at the box-office, becoming Kapoor’s highest grosser to date.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
