Paresh Rawal set to launch his next show on Star Plus

Veteran Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, who was last seen in the comic-caper Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, is all set to launch his upcoming show on the leading General Entertainment Channel, Star Plus. To be produced under the banner of Playtime Creationn, which is co-owned by Hemal Thakkkar and Paresh Rawal, the new show is said to be based on the concept of how good triumphs over evil.

Though nothing much has been revealed about the cast of the forthcoming show, a close source reveals that popular television actor Kunal Verma, who started his acting career with Ekta Kapoor’s Tujh Sang Preet Lagai Sajna in 2008, has been cast to play a pivotal role in the show.

“Kunal Verma, who was last seen in Dil Se Dil Tak on Colors, has been roped in for the show. The pilot for the show has already been shot,” says the source.

Playtime Creationn has produced some path-breaking shows in the past, including Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal, Teen Bahuraniyaan and Shubh Mangal Savdhaan. It will be the first time when the production house will do a show for Star Plus.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
