New Force India deal for Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez signed a deal to stay with Force India in the 2017 Formula One world championship despite being courted by Renault.

The 26-year-old Mexican driver had threatened to walk away from the sport if he could not secure a seat for next year but will now stay with Force India for a fourth season.

“I’m pleased to confirm that I will be racing with Force India in 2017 as the team and my supporters have concluded their agreements,” Perez said on Tuesday (October 4).

“I’m very happy with this team and I have a good feeling for the future,” he added. “I’ve seen the progress we’ve made over the last couple of years and we have the potential to achieve even more going forward.

“I thank the team for believing in me and will do my best to repay their faith with points, podiums and hopefully wins.”

Force India enjoyed another double points finish in Sepang, with Perez finishing sixth and Nico Hulkenberg eighth at the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday (October 2).

The 12-point aggregate means fourth-placed Force India (124) leads Williams (121) by three points in the constructors championship.

Oval Invincibles renamed MI London after Reliance deal

OVAL INVINCIBLES, the most successful team in The Hundred, will be renamed MI London after Surrey County Cricket Club announced a partnership with India's Reliance, with the two parties taking 51 per cent and 49 per cent stakes in the franchise.

The rebranded name is a reference to Mumbai Indians, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owned by Reliance. The Indian conglomerate also owns other franchises around the world with similar names, including MI New York and MI Cape Town.
