Nagpur man missing for 20 years found by BSF in Jammu, returned to family

This real life lost-and-found story has all the ingredients of Bollywood potboiler! 

A 52-year-old man from Nagpur in Maharashtra, who had mysteriously disappeared since 20 years, was traced by the Border Security Force near International Border in Arnia sector of restive Jammu and Kashmir. 


Hari Chand Yadav Rao Mahare, of Ramtek area of Nagpur, Maharashtra was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) near a ditch-cum-bund along the International Border in Allah village of Arnia sector in Jammu last Saturday. 

He was later handed over to police for further questioning. During his questioning Mahare revealed that he was from Maharashtra and that alerted the police. 

“His family members were contacted and informed about him. On September 26, his son Ranjeet Hari Chand Mahare and brother Shiv Charan Mahare reached Jammu and met him. Today he reached to his native village and reunited with his family members on the auspicious occasion of Mahanavami and Dussehra”, said a police spokesman. 

Sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of RS Pora Surinder Chaudhary told DNA that he used to go from one state to another and eking out his living as a daily wage laborer 

Chaudhary said he was speaking Marathi and they had to seek help from BSF soldiers from Maharashtra to unknot the mystery. “We contacted the SHO of his area but he said he does not have him in the list of wanted. We told him to check the records. When they contacted his father, he told them that he was missing since 20 years”, he said. 

Later the police brought the family to Jammu and handed over the missing man to them. “He was mentally disturbed when he left his home. He was working as labourer. When his family came here, they were so happy that they said they will not forget this favour”, he said. 

During his questioning, he also told the cops that he was staying in Jammu for the last eight to 10 years. “Sometimes he was roaming in Katra. Sometimes he was living in Udhampur. Mainly he used to wander one place to another and stay where he could get the work”, said Chaudhary.

UK unemployment rises to 4.6 per cent, highest since 2021

THE UK’s unemployment rate has increased to its highest level since July 2021, according to official data released on Tuesday, following the impact of a business tax rise and the introduction of US tariffs.
