I MET brilliant bhangra band Sahara after a knockout performance – which included one of the best dhol players I have ever seen – at the Alchemy Festival at South- bank Centre in London recently. They are riding high on the success of their recent single Billo Hai and are clocking up serious air miles with international tours. They are off to perform in Singapore, Malayasia and Thailand next, along with planning another single.

Priyanka Chopra turns heads at brother’s wedding with £1.2M necklace
Feb 06, 2025
Priyanka Chopra, Bollywood’s reigning queen who’s taking the world by storm, is currently basking in the joy of her brother Siddharth Chopra’s wedding to actress Neelam Upadhyaya in India. The pre-wedding celebrations have been a glittering spectacle, and Priyanka, as always, has been the epitome of elegance and poise. At the Mehendi-cum-Sangeet bash, she was truly a vision in a bespoke floral masterpiece by designer Rahul Mishra, but it was her jaw-dropping jewelry that truly stole the spotlight.
Priyanka slipped into a strapless, gem-encrusted gown dripping with intricate floral patterns, exuding pure charm and sophistication. But the real showstopper? A breathtaking Bvlgari necklace that could make even the stars jealous. Crafted in pink gold and encrusted with diamonds, the necklace featured seven pear-shaped morganites, six cushion-cut mandarin garnets, and nine cabochon amethysts. Fashion experts over at Diet Sabya pegged its value at a jaw-dropping 11,04,346.44 pounds basically wearing a fortune around her neck!
But she didn’t stop there. Priyanka took things up a notch with a Serpenti Viper bracelet and matching ring from Bvlgari’s exclusive collection. The bracelet alone is worth a cool Rs. 10.6 lakh, while the ring is priced at Rs. 3.5 lakh. Her glam squad perfected the look with soft, sultry eyes, rosy flushed cheeks, and glossy lips, while her tousled beach waves added a touch of effortless chic.
The Chopra-Jonas clan has been in full-on celebration mode, with Priyanka’s in-laws, Paul Kevin Jonas and Denise Miller-Jonas, joining in on the festivities. Paul even charmed the paparazzi by handing out sweets, thanking them for capturing the family’s special moments.
Siddharth Chopra, a film producer, and Neelam Upadhyaya, a Tamil and Telugu actress, have been inseparable since 2019. Their wedding is now the grand finale of their love story, and they have graced high-profile events together, including the Ambanis’ star-studded Holi bash.
Meanwhile, Priyanka has been juggling family celebrations with a packed professional calendar. She’s reportedly diving into SS Rajamouli’s upcoming cinematic spectacle alongside Mahesh Babu and is gearing up for the next season of Citadel. With projects like Heads of State and The Bluff in the works, this global powerhouse continues to slay both on and off the screen.
Priyanka’s head-turning appearance at her brother’s pre-wedding festivities is a masterclass in how to own the spotlight. She flawlessly marries sophistication with a hint of desi flair, proving again and again why she’s Bollywood’s reigning queen of style. Whether she’s rocking a red carpet or attending a family function, Priyanka Chopra doesn’t just wear fashion—she truly lives it!

Netflix’s 'Apple Cider Vinegar' exposes influencer who faked illness for fame and fortune
Feb 06, 2025
Netflix’s latest series, Apple Cider Vinegar, dives into the shocking story of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who built an empire on lies. Created by Samantha Strauss, the six-part drama explores how Gibson falsely claimed to have cured her terminal brain cancer through natural remedies, amassing a massive following before her deceit was exposed.
The series stars Kaitlyn Dever as Belle Gibson, a young woman who rises to fame by sharing her fabricated cancer journey. Her story of overcoming the disease through clean eating and alternative therapies influence thousands, leading to a bestselling cookbook, a popular app, and even a deal with Apple. However, her success unravels when investigations reveal she never had cancer and misused funds meant for charity.
- YouTubeyoutu.be
Alongside Belle’s story, the series introduces Milla Blake played by Alycia Debnam-Carey, a fictional character inspired by real-life wellness advocate Jessica Ainscough. Milla, a cancer patient who opts for holistic treatments, becomes Belle’s idol and rival. Their intertwined narratives brings out the dangers of blind faith in online influencers and the devastating consequences of spreading misinformation.
Apple Cider Vinegar is not just a retelling of Gibson’s fraud but more like what we can call a commentary on the power and pitfalls of social media. The series reflects on how easily people can be misled by compelling stories, especially in the wellness industry, where hope and vulnerability often collide.
The show’s supporting cast includes Aisha Dee as Chanelle, Milla’s loyal friend, and Tilda Cobham-Hervey as Lucy, a cancer patient drawn into Belle’s web of lies. These characters represent the real victims of Gibson’s deception, just regular ordinary people who trusted her and paid the price.
While the series takes creative liberties, it stays true to the core of Gibson’s story. Her eventual downfall, including a $410,000 fine for misleading consumers is actually a cautionary tale about accountability especially in this digital age.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also a much needed reminder of the need for scepticism in an era dominated by influencers. It asks viewers to question what they see online and consider the real-world impact of these viral stories. With its gripping narrative and strong performances, the series is a must-watch for anyone intrigued by the darker side of internet fame.
Now streaming on Netflix, Apple Cider Vinegar is not only a drama, it’s a mirror to the complexities of trust, truth, and the cost of deception.

Ajith's Vidaamuyarchi: Reviewers call movie a mixed bag of thrills and missed opportunities
Feb 06, 2025
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, has sparked a mixed bag of contrasting reactions since hitting theatres. The film attempts to fuse the nerve-wracking tension of Hollywood thrillers with the high-energy appeal of Tamil cinema, resulting in what can be called a cinematic cocktail that’s as intriguing as it is polarising. While many viewers praise its departure from formulaic storytelling, others find its execution uneven and even overly ambitious.
The praise
Many reviewers have applauded Vidaamuyarchi for breaking away from the typical “mass hero” template that we saw in Ajith’s recent films like Valimai and Thunivu. Gone are the days of over-the-top family sentiments, forced comedy, and preachy dialogues. Vidaamuyarchi opts for a slower, more atmospheric narrative, drawing comparisons to Western thrillers. The deliberate pacing, though again divisive, has been commended for its ability to build tension and offer a refreshing change from the usual high-octane Tamil blockbusters.
Ajith’s on-screen dynamic with Trisha Krishnan and their emotionally layered relationship, woven through fragmented flashbacks, adds depth to the storyline. The non-linear approach may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it undeniably brings a certain poetic touch.
Again, not everyone is on board with the film’s structural choices. Some critics argue that Vidaamuyarchi struggles to reconcile its Hollywood-inspired sensibilities with the larger-than-life expectations of Tamil cinema. Ajith’s character, Arjun, a former cop-turned-affluent businessman, seems torn between being a vulnerable everyman and an indestructible action hero. Viewers found the inconsistency distracting, making it hard to invest in his struggle.
While some viewers find the “flashback within a flashback” structure intriguing, others feel it creates unnecessary confusion. The constant withholding of key information has been criticised as more gimmicky than impactful, with some suggesting that a simpler narrative approach might have just worked better.
Antagonists and action
The antagonists, played by Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra, have stood out to a lot of viewers. Arjun Sarja, in particular, has been appreciated for his commanding screen presence and ability to match Ajith’s intensity. Regina’s character, though complex, has been criticised for being underutilised, leaving viewers wanting more.
- YouTubeyoutu.be
The action sequences have also received divided opinions. While some appreciate the slick execution and dystopian visuals, others feel certain scenes, like the darkly humorous home invasion sequence, feel out of place in an otherwise serious thriller. One undisputed highlight, though, is Om Prakash’s cinematography. The stark, desolate landscapes of Azerbaijan give the film a gritty, immersive quality that adds to its moody appeal.
The verdict
Vidaamuyarchi is a film that dares to be different, and for that, it deserves recognition. For Ajith fans, this is a welcome deviation from the norm, proving that he’s willing to experiment with his on-screen persona. For others, it’s a film that flirts with brilliance but maybe doesn’t fully embrace it. As the industry continues to explore global influences, Vidaamuyarchi is like a lesson in both the potential and pitfalls of such ambitious experimentation.

Rekesh Chauhan brings Indian classical-jazz fusion to Liverpool International Jazz Festival
Feb 06, 2025
ALTHOUGH he is an accomplished composer, British pianist Rekesh Chauhan BEM is at his very best in front of a live audience.
The multi-award-winning music maestro joins top tabla player Kousic Sen for a concert at this year’s Liverpool International Jazz Festival, taking place at The Capstone Theatre in Liverpool on February 22. The versatile duo will explore the dynamic intersection of Indian classical music and jazz in the culturally rich Beyond Roots show.
Eastern Eye caught up with the master pianist to discuss his love for live performance and forthcoming show.
How much does live performance mean to you personally?
The spontaneity and energy of being in the moment make each concert unique. I find immense joy in connecting with the audience, and it’s incredibly rewarding when people share how the music has had a positive impact on them. Knowing that a performance can touch someone’s life makes every moment on stage even more meaningful.
What has been your most memorable concert?
There have been quite a few – from performing with Shankar Mahadevan to playing at the Royal Albert Hall and even recording a live concert at Symphony Hall. All of these moments have been incredibly special.
Tell us about your Liverpool International Jazz Festival show in February.
This concert will mark the beginning of performances celebrating the 10-year anniversary of my debut album Beyond Roots – an album of classical ragas performed on the piano, produced by the brilliant arts organisation Milap. The album was recorded in Liverpool, so it is fitting that the celebrations begin there. I will be joined by tabla maestro Kousic Sen ji, who also performed on the album. Over the years, I have collaborated with larger ensembles to create a bigger sound for audiences, so I’m delighted to return to the pure form of classical ragas on the piano for this festival.
How do you feel being on stage in front of a live audience?
Most often, I am introducing a style of music to an audience that may be hearing it for the first time. So, I feel a responsibility to strike the right balance – staying true to tradition while also introducing my vision for the future of the music. My TEDx talk, The Future of Music (available on YouTube), explores this idea – music is constantly evolving, and it’s always exciting to discover new ways to communicate ideas.
How highly do you rate your fellow musician, Kousic Sen, for this show?
Kousic Sen ji is one of the most brilliant tabla players out there. He comes from a rich musical heritage and is a true virtuoso of his art form. We have been performing together for many years, and I’m fortunate to have him as a mentor.
Do you ever get nervous before an important live performance?
Absolutely. There have certainly been some nerve-racking moments – performing alongside legends like Javed Akhtar or knowing that Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is in the audience!
What are your plans for 2025?
It’s been a packed few years, and I’m glad to be back in the studio working on new music. The productions I scored during the pandemic explored the connection between mental health and music, and they really resonated with audiences. Music can have a profound positive impact, so I am determined to continue my work in this space. Keep an eye on my Instagram (@rekeshchauhan) for updates.
What inspires you as a live performer?
I am inspired by the audience – an artist draws energy from the audience, which in turn inspires the music. That exchange is what creates the magic.
You are a versatile artist, but which genre do you prefer?
I have enjoyed performing across different genres, but my heart belongs to classical music.
If you could master something new in music, what would it be?
I would love to compose for film, creating emotive scores that bring stories to life. Having worked on music for theatre productions, writing for film feels like a natural progression – blending my passion for storytelling with the power of orchestral music.
Why should we all come to your upcoming concert in February?
I will be offering a taste of India through the lens of Britain, taking the audience on a journey through folk, pop, and ragas – with a touch of nostalgia along the way. This will be a special moment to experience the music of ancient India in a city that gave the world The Beatles – a full-circle moment!

Osbourne, 76, who has been battling Parkinson's disease and spinal injuries, will take the stage for a short solo set before joining his bandmates. Despite his health challenges, he is determined to end his career with a bang, giving his fans the farewell they deserve. Sharon Osbourne, his wife, expressed how excited Ozzy is to be back with his band after so many years, but mentioned that this show would mark the end of his live performances.
This performance will be a full-circle moment for the band, who first formed in Birmingham in 1968. The city has always been integral to their identity, and Villa Park, home to Aston Villa FC, is the perfect venue for their final show. While Black Sabbath played their farewell tour in 2017, this reunion concert holds special significance as the founding members unite for one final bow
Fans are in for more than a musical experience because there will be special appearances by various heavy metal icons, including Billy Corgan, Slash, Fred Durst, and many more, performing together in a "supergroup" for an unforgettable celebration of Black Sabbath’s impact and influence on the genre.
Tickets for the event will go on sale on February 14, and fans are eager for what promises to be the "greatest heavy metal show ever," as promised by musical director Tom Morello. This is the last chance to witness the legends of Black Sabbath together and it's an event not to be missed.
