After a long wait, Hrithik Roshan’s hugely anticipated film Super 30 finally hit the marquee on 12th July. The movie, based on the inspirational life of noted mathematician Anand Kumar, largely received positive response from critics. On its opening day, it raked in ₹ 11.75 crores at the domestic box-office.

It was always predicted that Super 30 would open around ₹ 10-12 crores. The film was never expected to set the cash registers jingling on its opening day itself anyway, primary because of its content and the kind of audience it targets. Super 30 is emotional film and boasts of an outstanding performance from Hrithik Roshan, but it lacks the masala that typical mass audience looks in a film, especially if it stars Hrithik Roshan who is known for his masala entertainers like Kaabil (2017), Bang Bang (2014) or Krrish (2006).

Keeping all these factors in mind, Super 30 has still managed to take a decent start with ₹ 11.75 crore coming in on the debut date. Word of mouth is growing across the country and collections are expected to soar on Saturday and Sunday. The film is finding more audiences in multiplexes than single screens. Had it been universally accepted, things would have been pretty good for the Vikas Bahl directorial.

Having said that, the film still has time to grow well. Hrithik Roshan is coming back to the big screen two and a half years after his home production Kaabil which had registered an opening of ₹ 10.43 crores. But we cannot forget that it clashed with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. Had it been a solo release, the film would have definitely earned in the range of ₹ 18-20 crores.

It remains to be seen whether or not Hrithik Roshan scores a hit with Super 30.
