Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl: Delhi HC refuses to stay the streaming of this Janhvi Kapoor-starrer

Janhvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl released on Netflix on 12th August 2020. The movie received a thumbs up from the critics and even audiences appreciated it.

However, it faced a lot of controversies as many felt that the movie showed IAF in a bad light. A plea was filed to stop the streaming of the film. But, Delhi High Court has refused it.

PTI in a series of tweets wrote, “Delhi HC refuses to stay streaming of Netflix movie 'Gunjan Saxena - The Kargil Girl', on Centre's plea that it depicts IAF in bad light. IAF image is dented as movie 'Gunjan Saxena -The Kargil Girl' shows that force is gender biased: Centre to HC. HC seeks replies of Dharma Productions, Netflix and former Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena on Centre's plea to stop streaming of movie.”

Justice Rajiv Shakdher, on behalf of the court, told the Centre, "You should have come sooner.”

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a biopic on Gunjan Saxena, the first woman IAF pilot who flew into the war zone.

While talking about the controversy revolving around the film, Saxena had earlier stated, “Indian Air Force is at the core and the heart of this film. It is the very training of the Indian Air Force and the strong ethos of the Indian Air Force, which really gave me the courage to do all those extraordinary things that I could. And not only me, I think it is the strong values and rich culture of the air force that is really the driving force behind all the women officers from all the different branches of the Indian Air Force who have served or are still serving in this organisation. Yes, as a commercial movie or as a work of fiction, this film has creatively tried to capture my story or my journey. But what cannot be denied is that even in this film the doors did open and opportunities were given.”

BP has revealed it paid £1.2 billion in UK taxes during 2025, placing the oil giant at the centre of a growing debate over how Britain taxes energy companies at a time of rising profits, changing energy policies and mounting pressure on public finances.

The disclosure comes as the government moves to tighten tax rules affecting oil and gas firms, including changes designed to prevent companies from reducing their UK tax liabilities through overseas corporate structures. The plans are expected to raise hundreds of millions of pounds and have renewed attention on the contribution major energy companies make to the UK economy.
