Govinda starrer Rangeela Raja lands January release

After a long tussle with Censor Board of Film Certification over a series of cuts, Govinda’s much-delayed comic-caper Rangeela Raja has been cleared by the CBFC. The movie, which was originally set to release in November, 2018, will now hit the marquee in January, 2019.

CBFC had proposed for the film to have 20 cuts. However, when the makers approached the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), it cleared the film with a U/A certificate and 3 cuts, paving the way for its theatrical release in January.

“The committee felt that the cuts given by the CBFC were too harsh and hence decided to do away with 17 such cuts, but retained three cuts that were suggested by Prasoon Joshi’s team that viewed the film earlier. The film was to release last month, but now will release in the month of January,” a source revealed.

Produced by former CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani and directed by Sikander Bharati, Rangeela Raja is scheduled to roll into cinemas on 11th January, 2019.
