Fan Club Of The Week - Rajinikanth

ONE of the greatest actors in the history of cinema, Rajinikanth has delivered successful films and reached a God-like status with fans. One of the most popular fan clubs dedicated to the actor is Rajini Biggest Superstar of India (RBSI), which was founded by Karthic and then Prabhu.

The fan club has a dedicated team including Thamizh Azhagan and Guru. Eastern Eye caught up with RBSI to find out more...

What made you set up the fan club?

A love and passion for Thalaivar superstar Rajinikanth made us start RBSI. There are many superstars in India, but the biggest is Rajinikanth. Although the superstar has thousands of registered fan clubs, we wanted to start a digital one to unite young fans globally. RBSI is the most active empire of Rajinikanth on the digital platform.

Tell us about your fan club...

RBSI is a digital fan club with more than a million fans viewing our updates every day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We have hundreds of thousands of subscribers.

RBSI connects fans and believes the golden words of Thalaivar, ‘be good, do good’. We don’t believe in bursting crackers or pouring milk on banners as a part of movie celebrations. We instead donate milk to poor children and slums when the superstar’s movies release.

Helping the needy gives us the positive spirit to do more good. During Chennai floods, we co-ordinated relief materials in our RBSI food truck. For Kabali, we organised a special show for underprivileged kids. During summer, we had special buttermilk camps in and around Chennai for people. RBSI has even become an inspiration to fans of other actors.

What has been your best moment?

In 2013, I was on my way home riding my bike and surprisingly noticed our Thalaivar’s car. I peeped through the tinted glass to see him sitting inside wearing black sunglasses and was on cloud nine. For the next 500 meters I tried attracting his attention, but he didn’t react. I removed my helmet and tapped on my bike’s mask, which had his photo.

Later down the road Thalaivar looked out of the window, raised his hands and said ‘haiii’ with a cute smile. I became nervous and couldn’t react. I shouted: ‘Thalaivar, Thalaivar, thank you’. He smiled and caringly pointed for me to wear my helmet. I did it immediately and the superstar’s car disappeared into the distance.

What is your favourite work of his?

During Chennai floods, Thalaivar arranged and co-ordinated relief materials through RBSI for victims without a media spotlight. Not many know this and they still blame him, saying he didn’t help out. He cares for all the people and extends his support to them. He does welfare without a media spotlight.

Tell us an interesting fact about him...

Thalaivar’s love for fans is unconditional. When he comes to know a fan is ill or bedridden, he supports them and their family financially with no publicity. One of his fans was affected by cancer and was in the last stages of life. His last wish was to meet Thalaivar and without any hesitation he met him.
