Dharma Productions keen to sign Rajkummar Rao for a sequel

After the humongous success of horror comedy Stree (2018), Rajkummar Rao has become one of the most sought-after actors in Bollywood. Every filmmaker knows that the talented actor has over half a dozen projects on his platter, but that is not stopping them to approach him with new offers.

The latest we hear that the team at Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is keen to have Rajkummar Rao onboard to headline a sequel to one of their successful films. The team feels that the actor is an apt choice for the sequel.

“The director is yet to be confirmed, but the makers want Rajkummar to play an important role in a film sequel that they are planning. The earlier film has also been produced by Dharma and the makers feel that Rao is an apt choice for the film. It is not clear as to what the sequel in question is all about,” a well-placed source reveals.

The source goes on to add, “Karan Johar also saw the rise of Vicky Kaushal earlier and locked him for Takht, but that was before Vicky performed the surgical strike. With Rao, it has taken a while in coming as he has always been busy with many happening projects.”

Amongst Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming projects include Rooh-Afza, Turram Khan, Made In China, Mental Hai Kya, Stree 2 and an untitled film with Anurag Basu.

Indian actors who made TIME 100 before Ranbir Kapoor and what set them apart

Highlights

  • Ranbir Kapoor joins a short, selective list of Indian actors recognised by TIME
  • Earlier names were featured at moments of global crossover or cultural influence
  • The list shows how international visibility shapes recognition

Ranbir Kapoor’s inclusion in the TIME 100 Most Influential People list for 2026 places him in a rare group of Indian actors who have featured over the years. While the list spans global figures across industries, representation from Indian cinema has remained limited, with only a handful of actors making the cut at key moments of international visibility. Kapoor now joins that short list, adding a new chapter to how such influence is being defined.
