Dhadak, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar, announced!

If you have been waiting for the official announcement of Janhvi Kapoor's debut film with Ishaan Khattar, let us tell you that the much-awaited announcement has been finally made after months of speculations.

Both budding star kids will be launched by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and the film will be called Dhadak. It is reportedly a remake of Marathi blockbuster, Sairat, which revolves around two teenagers who go all out for their love while fighting against the deep-rooted caste system in the Indian society.

Before making the big announcement, Karan Johar took to his Instagram account and shared a video wherein the filmmaker said that he was going to make a special announcement at 5 pm.

And as the clock struck 5, Karan took to his Twitter handle and, delivering on his promise, announced Dhadak with Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar along with revealing the three first look posters and release date of the film.

The three posters feature Jahnvi and Ishaan in an embrace against the backdrop of a setting sun in a desert. If the first look posters of the film are anything to by, the two young actors show a lot of promise.

Jahnvi Kapoor is the daughter of veteran actor Sridevi and filmmaker Boney Kapoor while Ishaan is the half-brother of Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor. While Dhadak will be Janhvi's first film, Ishaan is making his debut with Iranian director Majid Majidi’s film, Beyond The Clouds.

To be directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak will hit screens on 6th July.

Yash says Ravana in Ramayana must connect with Western viewers as film eyes global audience

Highlights

  • Yash says he humanised Ravana to help global audiences relate to the character.
  • Asura designs in the first glimpse drew criticism for looking too Western-inspired.
  • Producer Namit Malhotra compares the film's tone to Lord of the Rings and Gladiator.
Yash, who plays the demon king Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, says his portrayal was shaped by one clear goal: making the character relatable beyond Indian audiences.
Speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, where the film was presented alongside major Hollywood releases, the actor said he worked to strip away the purely mythological reading of the role.

"I have tried to internalise the whole essence of Ravana and tried to make him as human as possible at times," Yash told Reuters.

"It is important for people to relate to him, and since we have global ambitions, we need to make it familiar to a Western audience as well."
