A sequel to Vicky Donor in the offing

Vicky Donor (2012), which launched immensely talented Ayushmann Khurrana in Bollywood, is considered a path-breaking film which dealt with the taboo topic of sperm donation. Almost 8 years after the release of the movie, rumours are rife in Bollywood corridors that a sequel to the blockbuster film is being planned.

Made on a shoestring budget of around ₹ 10 crores, the film raked in over ₹ 62 crores worldwide. It was produced by actor-turn-producer John Abraham and was later acquired by Eros International.

Reportedly, John is not willing to make a sequel to the film as, after the success of Vicky Donor, he had had some disagreement with Eros International over profit sharing. The sequel, if happens, will be bankrolled by producer Anand Pundit.

“While John never spoke about the reason for the disagreement, it was being said that he was not happy with the share of profits given to him. So, John did not want to do the sequel with them. Now, Anand Pandit has come on board and has acquired the title Vicky Donor 2 under his banner.”

The original film was helmed by Shoojit Sircar and also launched Yami Gautam, besides Ayushmann Khurrana. It is yet not clear whether Sircar will come onboard to direct the sequel or not.

More details are awaited.
