A new biopic on Phoolan Devi in the works

According to reports, a new biopic on the life of Phoolan Devi, also known as the bandit queen, is in the pipeline. Buzz has it that producer Shareen Mantri Kedia has acquired the rights to make a biopic on her life.

The producer has acquired the rights with the permission of Phoolan Devi’s family members and Trust. We also hear that the makers are looking at making a film as well as a web-series on the life of the bandit.

“Shareen has taken over the rights, which has been confirmed and ratified by Phoolan Devi’s husband Umed Singh, brother Shiv Narain, and the Phoolan Devi Charitable Trust. The project is being registered as web as well as a film,” a source informs.

Interestingly, it is not for the first time when the eventful life of Phoolan Devi has attracted filmmakers. In 1994, well-known filmmaker Shekhar Kapur made a biopic on her life, titled Bandit Queen, where Seema Biswas played the titular role.

The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and has attained cult status over the years.

Netflix has approved a $25 billion share buyback programme, using capital it had kept aside for its failed bid to buy Warner Bros.
The board gave the green light on 22 April, with the decision disclosed in an SEC filing the next day.
There is no expiry date on the programme. It comes on top of an existing December 2024 buyback that still had $6.8 billion left as of 31 March.

Earlier this year, Netflix pulled out of an $83 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros' streaming and studio assets after Paramount Skydance made a rival bid for Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount then paid Netflix a $2.8 billion exit fee.

Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters had already said the company would restart share buybacks once the deal was off.

Netflix shares have had a rough ride. They hit an all-time high of $134.12 in June 2025, then fell more than 40 per cent when the Warner Bros deal was announced.
