We are all jealous of that guy who keeps eating all the time but never gets fat. And you, on the other hand, one bite of pastry directly adds inches around your waist. But we have got no one to blame. We all are aware that this happens mostly because of our low metabolic rate, or that guy’s super-efficient metabolism. Most often we make peace with this and don’t take any necessary measures to correct the wrong. However, if you try, you can increase your metabolism rate significantly. And guess what? There’s no rocket science behind it. Let me show you how:
Protein in every meal
Your metabolism is directly related to your food habits. The science behind this is, eating actually boosts your metabolism for a few hours. This is because of the Thermic effect of food or due to the extra calories needed to digest and absorb the food. However, this effect is different for different macros of food. Remember, the higher it is, the better it is for you.
Protein causes the largest plunge in it, increasing your metabolic rate by 15-30%. While on the contrary carbs raise it by 5-10% and fats 0-3%. Plus, is you increase your daily protein consumption, you will automatically feel less urge to eat constantly since protein keeps you full for longer hours.
Drink plenty of COLD water
High consumption of water has a credible history of reducing weight considerably. Dieticians have always suggested to avoid sugary drinks and replace it with water instead due to the high amount of calories in the sugary drinks.
Now, studies have reckoned that water can also boost your metabolism temporarily, about 17 ounces of water can boost your resting metabolism by 10-30% for an hour. If possible, drink cold water, as your body will use energy to heat it up to body temperature, burning further calories.
Exercise regularly and lift weights
Preferably join a gym, hire a personal trainer, and start working out regularly. The idea is to build muscle because it is more metabolically active than fat. In fact, when you start lifting weight, you will start to burn more calories even when you are at rest.
Apart from that, lifting weight also helps in retaining muscles and prevents the drop in metabolism due to weight loss. Make sure you do everything in the strict watch of your trainer otherwise it can cause more harm than benefit.
Avoid sitting too much
Have you heard that sitting too much is “New Smoking?” Well, if not it is! Sitting too much burns very few calories, naturally leading to weight gain. But the problem is most of us have a desk job and even if you want to limit your sitting time, you can’t. So sometimes try and work while you are standing, and if not, take short breaks for ‘standing’!
Add green tea or oolong tea in your daily diet
Alongside being blessed with very low calories, green tea and oolong tea have shown to increase your metabolism by 4-5%. In fact, these teas also lead to fat burning by 10-17% as they convert some of our body fats into fatty acids. It has got metabolism-boosting properties which help prevent low metabolism as a consequence of weight loss. Also embrace other energy giving foods in your diet to keep your metabolism healthy.
Eat plenty of spicy foods
Capsaicin, a substance that is said to boost metabolism, is present in peppers. But remember, this measure is not for the ones who are not fond of spices, as not everybody will be able to tolerate these spices at doses required to have a significant effect.
Studies have also revealed that peppers can also burn over 10 calories per meal. At present, you might just perceive it as adding more spice to your meals, but if you see the bigger picture, it will really be helpful once combined with other metabolic boosting strategies.
Embrace a good night’s sleep
This is one of the most underrated things on the list yet the most effective. In fact, a night of peaceful sleep is one of the most unappreciated things around the world. Among the many other negative impacts of poor sleep, you need to know that lack of sleep has been associated with an increase in the risk of obesity.
Sleep deprivation has got many negative effects on one’s metabolism. It has been linked to an increase in sugar levels with insulin resistance. To avoid these complications, you just need to have a stress-free sleep at night with a minimum of 6-7 hours of duration.
Now you know there’s no rocket science that you need to learn to boost your metabolism. A few positive changes in your lifestyle and you are good to go a long way. Lifestyle is a small word but carries a lot more weight than expected.
Migrants swim to board a smugglers' boat in order to attempt crossing the English channel off the beach of Audresselles, northern France on October 25, 2024.
THE UK government on Monday launched a new sanctions regime targeting people-smuggling gangs and their enablers, which it described as the first of its kind globally.
Under the new regime, the UK will be able to freeze assets, impose travel bans, and block access to the country’s financial system for individuals and organisations involved in facilitating irregular migration. These actions can be taken without the need to rely on criminal or counterterrorism legislation.
The sanctions regime was first outlined by foreign secretary David Lammy in January. The government said it would work alongside powers included in the Border, Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, which is yet to be passed.
Prime minister Keir Starmer’s Labour government is under pressure to fulfil its promise to stop the movement of tens of thousands of people arriving in small boats across the Channel.
“For too long, criminal gangs have been lining their corrupt pockets and preying on the hopes of vulnerable people with impunity as they drive irregular migration to the UK,” foreign secretary David Lammy said in a statement.
“That’s why the UK has created the world’s first sanctions regime targeted at gangs involved in people smuggling and driving irregular migration, as well as their enablers.”
The government said the new measures would apply to individuals and entities that provide small boats, fake documents, and financial services used by smuggling networks.
Chris Philp, who leads on security and immigration for the main opposition Conservatives in parliament, said further steps were needed to address the issue.
“The truth is you don’t stop the Channel crossings by freezing a few bank accounts in Baghdad or slapping a travel ban on a dinghy dealer in Damascus,” he said. “Swathes of young men are arriving daily, in boats bought online, guided by traffickers who laugh at our laws and cash in on our weakness.”
Starmer has recently signed agreements with France and Germany aimed at reducing the number of small boat arrivals, as he looks to counter the rise of the right-wing populist Reform UK party led by Nigel Farage.

Rishab Shetty wraps Kantara Chapter 1 after 250 days of shoot
Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to the 2022 Kannada blockbuster, has wrapped after a 250-day shoot.
Actor-director Rishab Shetty shares a making video capturing three years of intense preparation.
Producer Vijay Kiragandur calls it Hombale Films’ “most ambitious project” to date.
Film to release worldwide on October 2, 2025, in seven languages including Hindi and English.
The much-anticipated prequel Kantara Chapter 1 has officially wrapped production, and the makers have released a behind-the-scenes video that offers a deep dive into the film’s massive scale and emotional core. Helmed by Rishab Shetty, who also leads the cast, the film is being positioned as Hombale Films’ most significant and culturally rooted production yet.
With over 250 days of filming and nearly three years of planning, Kantara Chapter 1 aims to expand the mythological universe introduced in the original 2022 hit Kantara. The prequel, which is set to release in theatres worldwide on October 2, 2025, will be available in seven languages, including English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, and Hindi.

What is Kantara Chapter 1 about and how is it different?
While the first Kantara focused on a clash between tradition and governance in a forest-bound village, the prequel takes a deeper dive into the roots of that mythology. In the wrap video, Rishab Shetty is seen undergoing intense physical training and rehearsing ancient martial arts like Kalaripayattu, suggesting a more devotional, period-action tone.
The footage also hints at expansive sets, created from scratch after the team could not find an existing studio space big enough. This led Hombale to build an entire dedicated production facility. “We realised very early that existing infrastructure would not do justice to Rishab’s vision,” producer Vijay Kiragandur said.
Why Vijay Kiragandur calls it Hombale’s biggest project
Hombale Films, known for mega-hits like KGF and Salaar, is no stranger to large-scale productions. Yet, Kiragandur insists that Kantara Chapter 1 surpasses them all, not just in scale, but in intent. “This is not just another pan-India film. This is deeply personal for us,” he said.
“The film demanded a completely new studio, a huge production team, and more shoot days than anything we’ve done before. But beyond the numbers, it’s the emotional weight and cultural depth that make it our most ambitious project yet,” he added.
Apart from Shetty, who has also co-written the film with Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Gowtham, the creative team features some big names. Ajaneesh Loknath returns as music director, while Arvind Kashyap handles cinematography. Hollywood stunt choreographer Todor Lazarov also worked closely on the project, adding international touches to the action sequences.
Production designer Banglan and costume designer Pragathi Shetty have created an authentic visual landscape, highlighting the region’s mythological roots. The art direction by Dharani Gangepura mixes regional aesthetics with cinematic grandeur, giving the film a timeless visual texture.

Real tragedies during the shoot underline the film’s emotional weight
While the wrap video celebrates the crew’s achievement, it also comes in the shadow of real-life tragedies. Actors Kalabhavan Niju and Rakesh Poojary, both associated with the film, died of heart attacks during production. A junior artist drowned during filming, and a crew boat capsized in June, though no lives were lost in the latter incident.
Kantara Chapter 1 release date and expectations
Set for release on October 2, 2025, Kantara Chapter 1 is already one of the most awaited Indian films. The original Kantara not only made over £37 million (₹400 crore) globally but also earned cult status for its storytelling, music, and cultural integrity.
By staying true to its roots while expanding its cinematic scope, Kantara Chapter 1 seems poised to be more than just a film. It could be a new benchmark for mythological storytelling from India, crafted for the global stage.

Bangladesh's fire service and security personnel conduct a search and rescue operation after an Air Force training jet crashed into a school in Dhaka on July 21, 2025.
At least 20 killed, over 170 injured, including children
Aircraft reportedly suffered mechanical failure
Bangladesh declares national day of mourning
AT LEAST 20 people were killed and more than 170 injured after a Bangladeshi fighter jet crashed into a school in Dhaka on Monday. It is the deadliest aviation accident in the country in decades.
The crash took place at Milestone School and College when a Chinese-made F-7 BJI fighter aircraft slammed into the building shortly after students had been let out of class.
An AFP photographer at the site saw fire and rescue teams carrying away injured students on stretchers. Army personnel were seen assisting in clearing the debris.
According to a military statement, the crash killed 20 people, including the pilot, and injured 171 others. The incident occurred after the aircraft experienced a mechanical failure.
Shafiur Rahman Shafi, an 18-year-old student, said he heard a loud blast.
“There were two fighter planes... Suddenly one of the two planes crashed here (in the junior playground),” he told AFP.
“It created a boom, and it felt like a quake. Then it caught fire, and the army reached the spot later,” he said.
The private school provides education from kindergarten to senior secondary level.
Mohammad Maruf Islam, joint director of Dhaka's National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, said most of the injured were between eight and 14 years old.
Grieving families gathered at the hospital, and volunteers lined up to donate blood.
Tofazzal Hossain, 30, said his cousin was among those killed.
“We frantically searched for my cousin in different hospitals,” Hossain told AFP.
“He was an eighth grader at the school. Finally, we found his body.”
The military said the pilot was on a routine training mission and “reportedly encountered a mechanical failure”.
“The exact cause remains under investigation,” it said.
The military added that the pilot tried to avoid a densely populated area but “despite his best efforts” crashed into the two-storey school building.
The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, announced a national day of mourning on Tuesday.
Yunus said he felt “deep grief and sorrow” over the crash in a post on X.
“The loss suffered by the Air Force, the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, as well as others affected by this accident, is irreparable,” he said.
“This is a moment of profound pain for the nation.”
The crash is the worst aviation accident in Bangladesh in several decades.
The deadliest incident in the country occurred in 1984, when a plane travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka crashed, killing all 49 people on board.
Last month, a commercial aircraft crash in India killed 260 people.
Indian prime minister Narendra Modi said he was “deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives” in Dhaka.
Relations between India and Bangladesh have remained tense since Sheikh Hasina, a long-time ally of New Delhi, was ousted by protesters last year.
“India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance,” Modi posted on X.
