Women also have to be stronger to feel empowered, says producer Binaifer Kohli

Producer Binaifer Kohli, who has two prominent shows Bhabhiji Ghar Pe Hai and Jijaji Chat Par Hai on air, says that India is slowly advancing where women empowerment is concerned. The producer adds that women are shining in every field and are being respected in their personal lives as well.

“I think women empowerment is quite evident in our country as we've had a woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, so many ministers like Smriti Irani, the Phogat girls who won the wrestling championship and many more who have made India proud. To a certain extent that movement is quite there. My husband appreciates everything I do and all males in my family are very encouraging towards their wives and mothers. If you're talking about interiors of India, then it’s beginning to happen there as well as laws have also become stricter, things have become stricter and are moving in the right direction. I feel that women also have to be stronger to make this happen,” she says.

The producer adds that strong women characters are being shown on the small screen today. “We're showing reality as in what atrocities women face but we're progressive in the sense that these characters are finally shown as winners and not losers. This shows their resilience, tolerance and, at the end of it, they win people over. Women, in our shows, are heroes and not losers since they emerge victoriously. On the big screen, men are heroes and on the small screen, women are heroes,” she says.
