Shah Rukh's ‘Swades’ actress involved in fatal car accident in Italy

According to reports, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades co-star Gayatri Joshi and her husband Vikas Oberoi were involved in a major car accident in Italy. Their car was involved in a multiple-car collision which left an elderly couple dead.

The accident reportedly took place as a Lamborgini and Ferrari tried to overtake a camper van simultaneously. This caused an overturn on a rural road of Sardinia and multiple cars collided.

The elderly Swiss couple - Melissa Krautli, 63, and Markus Krautli, 67 – travelling in Ferrari died when the vehicle caught fire.

Gayatri confirmed the news of the accident to an Indian publication and said that she and her husband were doing “absolutely fine”.

“Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here… With God’s grace, we both are absolutely fine,” she was quoted as saying.

The incident is said to have taken place during the Sardinia Supercar Tour as part of which luxury cars parade from Teulada to Olbia. A video of the accident that surfaced online soon after has gone viral.

Gayatri Joshi, who was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, began her career as a video jockey. She bagged the Femina Miss India International in 2000 and made her acting debut in 2004 with Ashutosh Gowariker’s critically acclaimed film Swades, which had Shah Rukh Khan as her co-star. Despite receiving a great response for her performance in the film, Gayatri made an abrupt exit from Bollywood and tied the knot with businessman Vikas Oberoi in 2005. The couple has two kids together.
