Satte Pe Satta remake to be announced on Diwali

After months of speculations and countless stories in the media, it looks like an official announcement regarding the remake of cult Bollywood film Satte Pe Satta (1982) is expected to be made soon. If reports are to be believed, Farah Khan is headlining the remake for Rohit Shetty's Production house, Rohit Shetty Picturez.

Talking about the casting of the film, several high-profile names have been attached to the much-awaited remake over the months, including Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone. Recently, the news emerged that Farah Khan has roped in Hrithik Roshan and Anushka Sharma for the project.

During an interaction with a leading daily when Farah was asked about the casting of the film, she said, “Let people guess.”

The choreographer-turned-filmmaker added that Rohit Shetty and she may make an official announcement regarding the project and its casting by Diwali, “Rohit is producing the film and I am directing it. Unless we come together and make a proper official announcement, everything is speculation. Hopefully, we will make the announcement by Diwali.”

The forthcoming film marks Farah Khan's return to direction after a gap of more than five years. She last helmed Happy New Year (2014) which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The film turned out to be a massive hit at the cash counter.

Satte Pe Satta has gained cult status over the years. It will be interesting to see whether or not the remake succeeds in doing complete justice to the original film which starred Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan.

You arrive in Kochi, and it feels like the sea air makes everything slightly sharper; faces in the city look purposeful, a film poster peels at the corner of a wall. In a city that has cradled a thriving film industry for decades, a single crime on the night of 17 February 2017 ruptured the ordinary: an abduction, a recorded sexual assault and a survivor who reported it the next day. What happened next is every woman’s unspoken nightmare, weaponised into brutal reality. It was a public unpeeling of an industry’s power structures, a slow-motion fight over evidence and testimony, and a national debate about how institutions protect (or fail) women.

For over eight years, her fight for justice became a mirror held up to an entire industry and a society. It was a journey from the dark confines of that car to the glaring lights of a courtroom, from being a silenced victim to becoming a defiant survivor whose voice sparked a revolution. This is not just the story of a crime. It is the story of what happens when one woman says, "Enough," and the tremors that follow.
