Sanjay Dutt starts shooting for Dharma Productions’ period drama Kalank

After wrapping up the first schedule of his home production film, Prasthaanam, superstar Sanjay Dutt has now started shooting for Karan Johar’s much talked about period drama, Kalank. While the movie went on floors almost a month back, Dutt began shooting for his portions from today.

Apart from Sanjay Dutt, Kalank also stars Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Kunal Khemu, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles. Dutt started shooting for his part with Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur.


According to a source, the makers are on a tight schedule as most of the film’s actors are simultaneously shooting for their other projects also. Varun is busy wrapping up Yash Raj Films Sui Dhaga with Anushka Sharma while Alia is shooting for another Dharma Productions’ venture, Brahmastra with Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. Sanjay Dutt, as mentioned before, is also busy with Prasthaanam.

Made under the banners of Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Kalank is being jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala. It is being helmed by Abhishek Verman who directed 2 States (2014) for Johar and Nadiadwala.

Kalank hits the marquee on 19th April 2019.

Karan Johar has said Bollywood’s growing dependence on paid publicity is creating a credibility issue, with audiences increasingly unsure what praise is genuine.

Speaking at an industry event hosted by The Week, Johar said the industry has entered “overdrive mode” when it comes to publicity and should allow actors and films to be judged by their actual work.
