olisa takes up met police diversity role Mum

CHIEF superintendent Victor olisa will be the Metropolitan Police’s strategic lead for diversity and inclusion, replacing denise Milani, the Met’s senior expert on diversity and inclusion. Milani will take on a new role as director of business change.

olisa, the borough commander at Haringey for three years, said: “We’ve come a long way but there’s still more we can do to become a police service that’s more diverse and inclusive.”


There have been calls from politicians and community leaders for increased represen- tation of minority officers

A report by the Home Affairs Select Committee found in the Metropolitan police, BMe (black minority ethnic) officer representation is 12.4 per cent, whereas minorities account for 40.2 per cent of the population

last year, a retired Met police chief superintendent, dal Babu, told Eastern Eye that a more di- verse police force with varied language skills would better serve communities

“only five per cent of police are from ethnic minorities, but less than one per cent have got to the rank of PC. every time you’ve got a crisis it would be good to see a Muslim or a non- white face. It’s about having the trust and people seeing the police are part of them,” he said….

INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that "development had won" as his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in Delhi’s local elections, ending a 27-year gap since it last controlled the capital’s legislature.

England bans 'bird gatherings' to contain avian flu spread

THE GOVERNMENT has announced a ban on "bird gatherings" in England as part of efforts to contain the spread of avian influenza.

The ban, which comes into effect from midday on Monday, will apply to fairs, markets, and shows involving various bird species.
